Description	:	Obituary was carried in the Niles Weekly Mirror 29 Jun 1898: "Joseph Dempsey, who resided here several years ago, died Thursday near Grand Rapids of quick consumption, age 65 years. He leaves a wife and four children-two daughters and two sons. One son Edward, now of South Bend, is well known here. The other is now at Tampa, Fla., with the South Bend militia. Y., June 8th, 1833, and died at Middleville, Mich., June 24, 1898. He came with his parents to Michigan in 1837. He was married to Miss Fannie Dakin. He died in peace trusting in the merits of Christ. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. F. Bartmess at the home of Wesley Dempsey, south of Buchanan, on Sunday, June 26. The remains were buried in the cemetery near Howe's school house."
