Mr O'Rourke was born in county Monahan, Ireland, November 2, 1849. He was married in that county to Katherine Glenn. There was one daughter born to this union, Mrs. Percy Glenn (Katherine Theresa O'Rourke) of Lexington, Massachusetts. Mr and Mrs O'Rourke and their daughter came to this county in 1883, and settled in Massachusetts. A week after they landed, Mrs O'Rourke died and the little daughter was placed with an aunt, who reared her. Mr. O'Rourke came west and settled in Castle Grove Township, Jones County. He worked for the first year he was in Iowa for his brother, the late James O'Rourke. He was employed on various farms in Castle Grove Township until he was married a second time. He was united in marriage to Mrs Katherine Lane (nee McDonald) at the Immaculate Conception Church in Castle Gove Township, February 5, 1885. The marriage was performed y the late Father Robert Powers. Four children were born to this union one of whom, Arthur P O'Rourke, died May 28, 1918, while in the service of his country in the World War. The local American Legion Post was named in his memory. The surviving children are Margaret (Mrs James Corcoran) of Monticello, John of Coggon, Joseph o Lovell Township. Mrs Percy Glenn, Lexington, Mass. Nine grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by one stepson, Dr. Lane o Cascade, Iowa in 1920. Throughout the active years of his life Mr O'Rourke followed the vocation of a farmer. He continued work on the farm until 1915, when he and his wife removed to Anamosa. They lived there one year and then came to Monticello, where they occupied what had since been their home on Fourth Street. The funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Church last Tuesday morning and Mr O'Rourke's body was buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery north of Monticello. The deceased was a devout member of the Catholic Church and whenever his health permitted, he attended mass regularly each day. He was a member of the local council of the Knights of Columbus. His daughter, Mrs. Percy Glenn and her fourteen-year-old son of Lexington, Massachusetts arrived last Tuesday to attend the funeral. Monticello Express, Monticello Iowa, Thursday, July 7, 1927
