There are a few minor errors in the entry, but overall is correct. ALFAIR(sic) OXENRIDER, widow of Joseph Oxenrider. Joseph was born in Wayne county, Ohio, March 17, 1822, and died November 17, 1874. Alfair was born in Fayette county, Ohio, December 1,1824. They were married in Defiance county, August 11, 1844. The children of this union are: Mary E., John M., Henry I., Jesse N., James B., Sarah L., and Ellen C. William and Mary Oxenrider, parents of Joseph, were natives of Pennsylvania, and settled in Defiance county in 1831. Their children are : Ann, James, William, Sarah, Catharine, Jonathan, Nancy, Elizabeth, Davis, and Mary. Mrs. Oxenrider was a daughter of William and Mary Callender, of Pennsylvania. They had twelve children: James, William, Thomas, Andrew, John, Solomon, Jesse, Mary, Roziila, Louisa, David, and George. Joseph Oxenrider settled in Defiance county in 1839. He received a wound while in the service of his country in the war of the Rebellion which caused his death. Mrs. Oxenrider had beside her husband one son, John, three brothers, and one son-in-law, John Lafer, in the Union army. The latter was killed at the battle of Franklin. Post-office, Edgerton. Business, farmer, section 12. On the Milford Twp., Defiance Co., OH 1870 Census he is enumerated as being age 46. His death is not recorded in the Defiance County Early Death Records 1867-1884. A Probate Record (OX-86)for Joseph in Defiance Co., OH is dated 20 November 1874. He resided in Defiance County at the time of his death, but may have died in Williams County, so Wms death records will be checked. Their marriage record is recorded in Williams County records, since Defiance County was still a part of Wms Co until 1845. Alaphair is last enumerated in the 1900 US Census for Lisbon City, Ransom Co., North Dakota age 71, living with her grandson Elliot age 22. On the previous census pg is a James B., age 43 and wife Catherine Oxenrider, age 24 with 4 children ages 8-1; James B. is a son of Joseph and Alaphair. She died in Lisbon, Ransom Co., North Dakota. I have requested her memorial page be transferred to me but no reply as of yet. Her memorial is linked to Joseph's memorial. I will be linking their children soon. Joseph also has a stone in Williams Co., Oh in Brown cemetery. I was going to delete Joseph's memorial #86469605 in Brown Cemetery, but thought if I left it more researchers would know why Joseph is listed in the Brown Cemetery Book. He does have a Civil War tombstone in Brown Cemetery, much like the one in Kemp Cemetery. It is believed the family wanted a memorial for Joseph with his parents and siblings that were buried in Brown Cemetery. Until Holly Ames Hanna provided a photo of Joseph's stone in Brown Cemetery, I thought there was an error in the Brown Cemetery book! No error's, just a duplicate tombstone for Joseph!
