Description	:	Joseph Paitz was born in the Rhineland in Germany and came to this country when he was about 21 years old. After first working in Iowa for a while and later near Columbus, he homesteaded near Chadron in 1887. In November of 1888 he was married to Miss Gertrude Mausback in St. Patrick's church in Chadron. In 1901 the family moved back to Columbus, Nebraska and then in 1904 to a farm near Prairie Center. In 1924 he and his wife retired and moved to Kearney. Mrs. Paitz died in 1934. After first working in Iowa for a while and later near Columbus, he homesteaded near Chadron in 1887. In November of 1888 he was married to Miss Gertrude Mausback in St. Patrick's church in Chadron. In 1901 the family moved back to Columbus, Nebraska and then in 1904 to a farm near Prairie Center. In 1924 he and his wife retired and moved to Kearney. Mrs. Paitz died in 1934. In 1941 Mr. Paitz went to Seattle to live with his daughter, Mrs. Roy Springer. Last June he returned living until the time of his death with his daughter, Mrs. Joe Zwiener. Mr. Paitz was preceded in death by four children, two infant sons, John and Edward and two daughters Mrs. Anna Schram, who died in 1911, and Mary who died in the flu epidemic in 1918. He is survived by four daughters Mrs. Lena Zwiener of Pleasanton, Mrs. Gertrude Gibbons of Prairie Center, Mrs. Margret Burke of Seattle,Mrs. Johanna Springer late of Arlington, Wash., and two sons, Mike of Hot Springs, S. D. and Jake of Pleasanton, 21 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Paitz died suddenly the morning of March 11th in the home of his daughter Mrs. Joe Zwiener at the age of 88 years and 28 days. Funeral services were held in the St. Mary's church at Pleasanton. Father Joseph Hargarten offered the Requiem Mass. Burial was in the Prairie Center cemetery beside his wife.
