He came to this country in 1883 at the age of four. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 57 years and had lived most of his life near this community. Read More	Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 15, 1953: Joseph Parker, 74, of 241 South Ransom street, died at the Ottumwa hospital today at 9:10 a.m. Born in England on January 2, 1879, he was the son of Robert and Maria Williamson Parker. He came to this country in 1883 at the age of four. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 57 years and had lived most of his life near this community. He was a coal miner and had worked for the city for seven years prior to retiring five years ago because of poor health. He was a member of the Royal Order of Moose. He is survived by his wife, Laura [sic] Leach Parker; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Lanning, Mrs. Nick Wagner, Mrs. George Hein and Mrs. M.L. Burns, all of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Michael Carr and Mrs. Edith Beddow, both of Ottumwa; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Parker, both of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lavina, in 1934, and one son, Joe, in 1935. “PARKER SERVICE,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 16, 1953: Funeral services for Joseph Parker, 74, of 241 South Ransom street, who died Wednesday at 9:20 a.m. at the Ottumwa hospital, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. Vernon Pearson of the Finley Avenue Baptist church. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery.
