Father Vermuelen officiating. Joseph Phillip Heithoff, son of Barney and Katharina Heithoff, was born July 4, 1865, at Guttenburg, Iowa, and passed away Oct. 31, 1944 at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 27 days. He was third in a family of five boys. He came to Carroll county, Iowa, in 1871 with his parents who settled near Rosell, Iowa. His father passed away in 1876 and his mother in 1905. Two brothers, Henry and Barney, also preceded him in death. Mr. Heithoff came to Elgin in 1886 and settled in a prairie home. In 1889 he married Katharina Kettmann of Templeton, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters and one son. In 1905 the family moved to their farm east of Cedar Rapids, where Mrs. Heithoff died July 24, 1942. After her death he continued to live in the home, taking his meals with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Buechter and family. Those left to mourn his passing are his three daughters and one son, Emma Kleffner of Elgin; John Heithoff of Primrose; Elizabeth Kleve of Holyoke, Colo. and Rozetta Buechter, Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Joey Buechter, preceded him in death. He is survived also by two brothers, John Heithoff of Templeton, Iowa, and August Heithoff of Carroll, Iowa. Pallbearers were: Martin Rutten, Ben Buechter, John Kennedy, John Krings, Ray Hunt and L. L. Vanderheiden. Those who attended the funeral services from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kleve and Mrs. Robert Mansfield and children of Holyoke, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. John Heithoff, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McIntyre, Primrose; August Heithoff, and Norbert Heithoff, Carroll, Ia., Barney and Joe Heithoff, Templeton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Roth, Albert and Henry Heithoff, Elgin; Ben Tunick, John Turner, Joe Liebel, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Van Ackeren and Dick Van Ackeren of Omaha. ___ Card of Thanks We wish to take this means of expressing our sincere thanks for the floral and spiritual offerings and to our neighbors who so kindly helped at the time of the illness and death of our father, the late Joe Heithoff.
