Description	:	Joseph was born in Ireland in 1843, son of James Davidson. He married Ellen Jane Lowry, daughter of Mary McCann and Robert Lowry August 27, 1863. They immigrated to the USA after they had their first child. There were 6 children born of this union:1 born in Killinchy, Down, Ireland and 4 born in Rock Co., Wisconsin were (Genieveve) "Jennie D.", Alice, May Ella, Cery B., Robert L., and Nellie W., the youngest was born in Alexandria, South Dakota. He married Ellen Jane Lowry, daughter of Mary McCann and Robert Lowry August 27, 1863. They immigrated to the USA after they had their first child. It is noted they had their first child/daughter when they immigrated- locating sometime before or in 1866 when the second child was born in Rock Co., WI. Their travels to South Dakota brought them close to family as sister in law, Mary Mcmaster(Ellen Jane's younger sister) had moved with husband and their children to Alexandria as well. Joseph and Ellen raised their children in the southeastern part of South Dakota who became farmers/grain operators, teachers, tin smiths, hardware dealers, wholesale grocery businessmen. There were many(20 known)grandchildren and (8 known)great grandchildren. Several infant grandchildren dying and daughter Cery following him in death in 1918. He and wife Ellen Jane,who were foundational in creation of the local cemetery association, were laid to rest in Green Hill Cem., Alexandria, So. Dakota.
