OLIVER MONDAY NOON LOCAL GARAGE OWNER’S DEATH SEVER SHOCK TO COMMUNITY The entire community was shocked Monday noon when it was learned that Joseph Thomas Oliver, 61, owner of the Ford garage in Villisca had succumbed to a heart attack. Mr. Oliver had been at work as usual Monday forenoon and there was no indication that he was suffering from any affliction, but shortly after he returned to his home for such, he passed away. Mr. Oliver had lived in this community since 1915, when he came here from Spencer, Iowa to establish a Ford Automobile Agency, and with the exception of the time he served with the armed forces during WW1, has lived here ever since. At the time of his death he was still actively engaged in the garage business, and had always appeared in good health. He was married to Clemmie B. Brockmeier, July 17, 1918, while he was in the service at an army camp. For many years Mr. Oliver has been associated with civic affairs in this community and was elected to the city council March 28, 1932 on which body he served until January 3, 1940. At that time he resigned as a member of the council and was appointed as trustee on the board of directors on the Municipal light plant, on which board he was serving at the time of his death. Funeral services for Mr. Oliver will be held from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at nine o’clock this Thursday morning conducted by Father Joseph M. Schulte. Pall bearers will be Paul Fisher, George Scott, Wayne Spencer, John Oltman, Earl Gage, and Robert Hewitt and honorary pall bearers will be Guy Dirrim, C. G. Hilleary, J. F. Joy, W. E. Brodrick, C. M. Orr, M. E. Wendling, Willis Peterman, and Verne Robinson. Ushers will be Hugh Hogan and Leo Archer, and burial will be in Villisca Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clemmie Oliver, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Saunders of Britt, Iowa and Sister Mary Thomasine of Dubuque, Iowa; also three brothers, Raymond Oliver, Austin, Minnesota, Cletis Oliver, Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Al Oliver, Sauk Center, Minnesota.
