Description	:	Joseph Whitmore Crandall was born in Tunkhanack, Penn., May 24, 1850, the elder son of Jallier and Harriett Crandall. He passed away at his home in Fairmont, January 16, 1935. When a small boy, the family moved to Rochelle, Ill., in 1863, where he grew to manhood. He was of an industrous disposition and hard working boy. Read More	Joseph Whitmore Crandall was born in Tunkhanack, Penn., May 24, 1850, the elder son of Jallier and Harriett Crandall. He passed away at his home in Fairmont, January 16, 1935. When a small boy, the family moved to Rochelle, Ill., in 1863, where he grew to manhood. He was of an industrous disposition and hard working boy. His parents died while he was quite young, leaving a family of five sons and one daughter to make their way alone. On April 6, 1877, he was united in marriage to Diantha Rice of Rochelle, Ill. In the fall of 1879 they moved to Concordia, Kansas, taking a homestead and enduring the hardships of pioneer life. In the summer of 1891, the family moved to Fairmont, Nebraska, where he resided until his death. Mr. Crandall was a rural mail carrier for almost twenty-five years, being retired on a pension at the age of seventy-two years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge for thirty-seven years, also the Encampment, and an honorary member of the Samaritan. He was a member of the M.E. church, and always was in attendance until ill health prevented him. He was a good and kind father and a brother in time of need, always willing to help others in time of sickness and need. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Maude Izer of Wymore, Nebraska; Mrs. Blanche Wells of Lincoln, Nebraska and Earl Crandall of Fairmont, Nebraska. His wife preceded him in death June 13, 1933, and his elder son, Frank, was killed in an auto accident June 26, 1935. There are nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank H. Crandall of Independence, Iowa and D.B. Crandall of Tobias, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Palmer of Franklin, Nebraska, and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church, in charge of Rev. Robert L. Embree, assisted by Rev. J. A. Martin. Singers were Mrs. Charles H. Little, Mrs. Mabel Quinlan, Oliver Moul and W.E. Black. Pallbearers were: Elwood Bender, R.E. Bruce, Harry Carson, D.W. Stephenson, Robert Halsey and J.J. Clark.
