Description	:	Diantha Rice, younger daughter of the Rev. David and Mary Rice was born o June 2, 1853, at Washington Grove, Ogle county, Illinois. She grew to womanhood at her birthplace, being left, by the death of her mother, to the care of her older sisters and brothers. On April 6, 1879, she was united in marriage to Joseph W. Crandall at Rochelle, Illinois, and the following fall the couple moved to Concordia, Kansas, to make their home. Here they lived for the ensuing thirteen years, enduring the hardships and privations of the pioneers of that period. In 1891 Mr. and Mrs. Crandall came with their family to make their home in Fairmont, Nebraska, and this has continued to be their dwelling place. In early life Mrs. Crandall became a Christain. She was loved b all who knew her, and was always ready to give her help to others in need. For the past thirty hears it has been her lot to suffer as an invalid, in fact, enduring indifferent health for most of her life, the frail body seeming at times to suffer more than it could bear. But in it all there was love for those around her, and patience in the midst of pain. Mrs. Crandall was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Fairmont, and also a charter member of the Degree of Honor. On Tuesday evening, June 13, 1933, her spirit was happily released from the ill of the flesh, and the sorrow of her dear ones is somewhat alleviated by the thought that to her at last there has come rest. The four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Crandall are all living, so that surviving, besides the husband, are: Frank B. Crandall, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Maude Izer, Wymore, Nebraska; Mrs. Blanche Wells, Lincoln, Nebraska; and Earl Crandall, Fairmont. There are also nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. J.W. Rice of Dixon, Illinois; and a niece, Mrs. Leota Burroughs of Concordia, Kansas, whom Mrs. Crandall had reared from childhood after the death of the mother. Funeral services were held at the home and in the Fairmont Methodist church on Thursday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. J. Henry Stitt. Two of Mrs. Crandall's favorite hymns, "Fade, Fade, Each Earthly Joy" and "Have Thine Own Way" were sung by Mrs. Quinlan and Miss Velda Winsor, and the solo, "Beautiful Garden of Prayer," by Oliver Moul with Miss Elsie Bender pianist. The sermon was based on a new rendering of Philippians 3:21, "Who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, that it may be conformed to the body of His glory." Pallbearers were Messrs. D.W. Stephenson, Charles L. Cox, L.M. Farrar, J.H. Usher, Robert Halsey and C.C. McElvain. Interment was made in the Fairmont Cemetery.
