Joseph, son of Chrysant and Anna Marie Gau, was born August 3, 1873 at Johnsburg, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Mary Anna Leinen, February 19, 1895. She preceded him in death, August 22, 1951. They had no children. Read More	LIFE STORY OF JOSEPH WILHELM GAU, 78 Mr. Joseph Wilhelm Gau, age 78 years, 7 months and 12 days, died at his home at Portsmouth, on March 23, after an illness of nearly six months. Joseph, son of Chrysant and Anna Marie Gau, was born August 3, 1873 at Johnsburg, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Mary Anna Leinen, February 19, 1895. She preceded him in death, August 22, 1951. They had no children. Mr. Gau was a resident of the Portsmouth community all of his married life with the exception of one year which was spent on a farm in South Dakota. Besides farming, he operated a gasoline tank wagon for eleven years and in his later years did carpenter work. He was a member of the Portsmouth Fire team since 1923. He is survived by five brothers and two sisters. They are; Albert of Parkston, South Dakota, Fred and Cornelius of Omaha, Will of Geddes, South Dakota, Chris of Defiance, Mrs. Margaret Mumm of Geddes, South Dakota and Mrs. George Weihs of Westphalia. Funeral services were held March 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. N. A. Gaul in charge. Music was furnished by the St. Mary's choir. Six of his nephews served as pallbearers. They were; Joe Gau, Jerome Gau, Loren Weihs, Harold Leinen, Michael Leinen and John Ohlinger. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery. From The Harlan Tribune (Harlan, Iowa) – Friday 11 Apr 1952
