On Jan. 26, 1909, he was married to Kathryn M. Schafer at St. Mary's Church in Panama. Kathryn (Kate) was the daughter of John and Theresa (Pimple) Schafer. She was born on Jan. 31, 1879, also in Westphalia. After their marriage, they lived in Panama. Peter was a carpenter by trade, and Kate was a seamstress. Mr. Gau was involved in the construction of the present St. Mary's Church in Panama. Mr. and Mrs. Gau were the first couple to be married in the church. They were the parents of five children. Edward Chrisant was born Oct. 20, 1910. He died in 1960, and is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Omaha,NE. Sylvester John was born on Nov. 29, 1912. He died in 1981, and is buried at Clarkston, Washington. Elroy Joseph was born on Sept. 15, 1914. He died in 1975 and is buried in Clarkston, Washington. Laurina Marie was born on July 12, 1916. Urban Cornelius was born on Feb. 9, 1918.
