Joseph Wiseman, brother of George Wiseman of Sac City and a former resident of the Lake View and Grant City vicinities, died at his home in Lake City last Friday. He had been ailing for some time and for seven weeks prior to his death had been quite ill. Funeral services were held at the home in Lake City last Sunday, in charge of Rev. Kern, pastor of the Church of Christ in that city. Services at Oaklawn cemetery at Auburn were under the direction of the Odd Fellows. Pall-bearers were Wm. Brower and Henry Peper of Lake View lodge, Wm. Garnatz and John Hawthorne of Auburn lodge, and John Oxenford and E.W. Bean of Lake City. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet from the Church of Christ, composed of Mrs. Wm. Moulds, Mrs. Helmer Sandburg, John Lee and Walter Eakin. Among those present at the funeral were Mrs. A.W. Crouch of Creighton, S. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. George Wiseman, Mrs. Theo. Mann, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Cleveland and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Bogue, of Sac City; Mrs. A. McClintock, Mr. and Mrs. Mell Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Art Olson of Lake View; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mason of Auburn. Some fifty Odd Fellows attended in a body. Joseph Wiseman was born at Patch Grove, Wis., June 6, 1852. He was the son of John and Charlotte Wiseman, natives of Ireland and Scotland, respectively. When he was about 15 years old he came with his brothers and sister to Grant City. Mr. Wiseman was married March 15, 1886 at Osage, Iowa, to Mary McClintock, daughter of Joseph and Mary McClintock, of Lake View, Iowa. Their married life was spent on farms in Sac and Calhoun counties, going to Lake City in 1917 where the remaining years of his life were spent. To this union were born six children, of whom Ray, the youngest, died when a small child. He is survived by his wife and five children – John, of Tama; Frank at home; Wilma, wife of Denzel L. Fuller, of Sioux City; Ellen, wife of Paul DeLong, of Lake City; Edna, at home, and three grandsons. He is also survived by his brothers, William of San Mateo, Calif., James of Olympia, Wash., George of Sac City, a sister, Mrs. A.W. Crouch of Creighton, S. Dak., and a step-brother, E.L. Gregory, of Lake City. About two years ago he began failing in health and departed this life July 20, 1928 at the age of 76 years and 1 month and 14 days. He has been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows since July 18, 1899, and at the time of his death he was affiliated with Auburn lodge No. 540.
