Read More	Omaha World-Herald Sunday, Jan 09, 1927 Omaha, NE Page: 3 Woman Who Crossed To Omaha On Ferry, Dies Mrs. Josephine Janecek Went from Here by Ox Cart to Prairie Homestead Mrs. Josephine Janecek, 72, who in 1870 crossed the Missouri River by ferry to Omaha, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anton Fuxa. She had lived with the daughter for 17 years since the death of her husband. She leaves a son, John James Janecek, Omaha; two daughters, Mrs. A.L. Horky, Omaha, and Mrs. Fuxa. Mrs. Janecek came to America in 1867, and after living in the east three years went by train to Council Bluffs. She had related that in the early '70's she was offered the site of the present Peters Trust company building at Seventeeth and Farnam streets for two hundred dollars, but declined because it was "nothing but brush." In the early days she was for several years a maid in the home of Edward Rosewater. With her parents she went from Omaha to homestead near Linwood, Neb., in an ox cart. She and her husband later ran a store and hotel at North Bend, Neb., at the time of the flood of 1881. The hotel was for several years a home for workers who were building railroad lines over the prairies and for persons seeking or proving up claims. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fuxa. Burial will be in the Bohemian National cemetery.
