Description	:	Josie, daughter of Frank and Sarah Kanode, was born September 28, 1882, near Chester, in Republic county (sic), Kan., and departed this life October 16, 1943, at her home in Liberty township, at the age of 61 years and 18 days. She was united in marriage to Charles Harris Derowitsch at Hoxie, October 11, 1898 with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of a full life for 45 years. When she was a little girl of ten she went to Sheridan county (sic), with her parents, and there she grew to womanhood. In 1913 she returned to Republic county (sic) and lived here until 1917 when she went to Haigler, Nebr., and lived 5 years. Then again she came back to Republic county (sic) and remained the rest of her life. She was always interested in the welfare of her family and friends, not thinking of herself, and was loved by all who knew her. Surviving are her husband Charles Harris Derowitsch; six of her chhildren; 12 grandchildren, two who are in the armed services, Gene Derowitsch on active duty and Pvt. Kenneth Derowitsch of Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the Navy; her father, Frank Kanode, sr., of Westmoreland; four brothers, Paul Kanode of Denver, Colo., Oran Kanode and Harley Kanode of Nunn, Colo., and Frank Kanode, jr., of Westmoreland; five sisters, Mrs. Lilly Buffington of Haigler, Nebr., Mrs. Emma Pollock of Nunn, Colo., Mrs. Jessie Hogrefe of Creswell, Ore., Mrs. June Mayer and Mrs. Clara Hope of Westmoreland. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Chester, conducted by the Rev. Bill Chelander of Randolph. Interment was made in Chester cemetery (sic).
