Frances Mrtka, a daughter of John and Mrs. (Pavias) Mrtka was born February 12, 1839 in Czechoslovakia. They were married in 1861 in Potshoff (Pacov?) Czechoslovakia. Read More	ZMOLEK, JOSEF AND FRANTISKA (MRTKA) Joseph Zmolek, a son of John and Elianora (Cizek) Zmolek was born November 20,1839 in Samsin, Czechoslovakia. Frances Mrtka, a daughter of John and Mrs. (Pavias) Mrtka was born February 12, 1839 in Czechoslovakia. They were married in 1861 in Potshoff (Pacov?) Czechoslovakia. In 1870, they immigrated by steamboat to America. They traveled on to Iowa City and into Tama County where, for a short time, they stayed first at a Dvorak homestead, then in the Montour vicinity for four months, then moved to Otter Creek Township Section Two (later known as the Frank Hayek farm). This farm was one half mile north of the present Duponda blacktop road. Later, they moved to Carroll Township Section 26 SW V4. Finally, they moved to Section 34 SW 1/4 in 1895 which was the place where they remained and farmed the rest of their lives. It was on the latter farm that the custom of the Zmolek families getting together originated. Today the Zmolek reunions are continuing on a yearly basis. Joseph and Frances had eleven children. One child, Maria, died and was buried sometime prior to the family's journey to the United States. Anthony, their oldest child, was born April 4, 1864 in Czechoslovakia. He married Julia Zamastil on August 30, 1886. Their children are: James, Frank, Frances, Julia (Sister Philomena N.D.), Maria, Anna, Peter, Anton, Agnes, and Barbara. He died at the age of 51 on February 20, 1916 and was buried at Holy Trinity Cemetery near Vining, Iowa. Joseph Jr., was born in November 1865, in Czechoslovakia. He married Mary Kunch on January 20, 1890. Their children are: Louis, George, Joseph, Stephen, Adolph, Nellie (Helen), Philip, Genevieve, Fred, Emmanuel and Mary. He died at the age of 81 on May 13, 1947 and was buried at St. Vaclav Cemetery near Clutier, la. Antonia (Tena) was born January 16, 1868 in Czechoslovakia. She married Vaclav Novotny on August 30, 1886. Their children are: Joseph, Julia, Anna, Vitus, Frances, Vincent, Madeline, and Frank. She died at the age of 60 on March 9, 1928 and was buried in St. Vaclav Cemetery. Frank was born in 1870 in Czechoslovakia. He married Tena Svoboda. Their children are: Frances, Albina, Eleanora, and Mary. He died at the age of 36 on November 30, 1906 and was buried at St. Vaclav Cemetery. Frances was born January 28, 1872 in Otter Creek Township. She married John Svoboda on October 14, 1895. Their children are: Anna, Charles, Maria, Margaret, Josef, Paul, Peter, and Benedict. She died at the age of 85 on December 6, 1957 and was buried in the St. Vaclav Cemetery. John was born March 16, 1873 in Otter Crook Township. He married Emma Motycka on February 11, 1902. Their daughter is Blanche. He died at the age of 83 on June 24, 1956 and was buried in St. Vaclav Cemetery. Anna was born September 12, 1875 in Carroll Township. She married Anton Kucera on February 21, 1898. Their children are: Philip, Anthony, Joseph, Anna, Frank, Frances, Genevieve, and Mary. She died at the age of 90 on July 2, 1966 and was buried in St. Vaclav Cemetery. Michael was born February 17, 1877 in Carroll Township. He remained single and at the age of 80 died on October 9, 1957 and was buried in the St. Vaclav Cemetery. Josephine was born May 17, 1878 in Carroll Township. She married Charles Parizek. Their children are: Mary, Vera, Charles, and Helen. She died at the age of 49 on July 26, 1927 and was buried in the Holy Trinity Cemetery. Genevieve (Sister Mary Sebastian) was born January 3, 1880 in Carroll Township. She was a member of the Mercy Sisters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
