Read More	17 September 1908 - West Branch Times The community was shocked on Tuesday evening to learn that Joshua Young, an aged and respected citizen of Springdale, had been found dead in his wagon. He had driven to town during the afternoon and started on his return near sundown. Samuel Armstrong noticed the horse going without guidance and the driver lying on the spring seat. The horse was stopped and a telephone message called Dr. Leech, who went by automobile and was at the Armstrong home within five minutes after receiving the message, but found life was extinct. His hat was found some distance nearer town which indicated that the stroke had attacked him about that place. The body was taken home to his sorrowing wife. The cause of his death was heart failure, superinduced by organic heart disease, from which he had been afflicted for several years. 24 September 1908 - West Branch Times The funeral of Joshua C. Young was held last week, on Friday Sept. 18th conducted by the Rev. Basham of Mt. Zion, assisted by Rev. Blanch Ford, pastor of Friends Church at Springdale. Short services were held in the forenoon at 8 o'clock, conducted by Miss Ford. At 8:30 the procession left the village for Mt. Zion three miles southwest of Tipton, which was met at the Mt. Zion church by a large assembly. Rev. Basham preached the funeral sermon to a host of friends of the deceased. After the interment the Ladies Aid Society of Mt. Zion, and neighbors had prepared and served a bountiful meal in the church yard for all those attending from a distance. Undertaker H. C. Miller of West Liberty had charge of the funeral. J. C. Young was a man of wide acquaintance and was very influential and will be greatly missed. The Tipton Conservative, September 23, 1908. Joshua C. Young, the son of Joseph and Caroline Young, was born near Salem, Ohio, July 17, 1837. With his parents he came to Iowa when he was nineteen years of age. They settled on what is now the Mingus farm, northwest of Springdale. The following spring they moved to Muscatine county, residing near Bloomington. Here Mr. Young was married to Lucinda Mayer February 14, 1867. To this union was born one child, Flora Bell, who lived to have a home of her own, but died September 22, 1889, at the early age of 22 years. In early manhood, Mr. Young became a follower of Christ and in every step of life he did what he thought to be right. Mr. Young and his family moved several times to different places for the purpose of regaining his health, but received no permanent benefit. they at last moved to Springdale, Iowa, which has been their home for the past two years. He died September 15, 1908. His death was a great shock to the community as he had gone to West Branch Tuesday apparently as well as usual, but on his return home it is supposed he was stricken with heart failure which soon bore him to the Heavenly home instead of his earthly home. Mr. Young will be greatly missed by all who knew him, for he was a devoted husband, a faithful father, and a kind and thoughtful disposition and was greatly believed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, two brothers, and two sisters, who resided California. Short services were held at the home and he was laid to rest in the Mount Zion cemetery Friday afternoon.
