Read More	OLDEST RESIDENT OF TIPTON DIES Obit Tipton Paper February, 1941 Tribute Paid To Aunt Cindy at Rites on Sunday Beloved "Aunt Cindy", Mrs. Lucinda Young, 93, Tipton's oldest resident, died quietly at her home in Tipton Thursday. Funeral services were held at the McCormick funeral home in Tipton at two o'clock Sunday with Rev. William Crossley officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery, southwest of Tipton. Lucinda H. Mayer was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on April 12, 1947, the daughter of John G. and Catherine B. Mayer. Her sisters, Mrs. Ann Collar and Maria McCully and her brothers, Isaac, Christopher and John preceded her in death. She came from Pennsylvania with her parents to Freeport, Illinois in a covered wagon and lived there several years. From Freeport she came to Muscatine, where she married J. C. Young in the year 1865. There the couple established a home but later moved to Cedar County to the Mt. Zion vicinity, then near Springdale where her husband passed away. To this union was born one daughter, Flora B., who married Thomas Cunningham of Pennsylvania. Flora B. had one child, a baby girl who died at the age of nine weeks. Three days after that the mother died, and both were buried together in Mt. Zion cemetery. Mrs. Young's husband preceded her in death almost 30 years ago. Only nieces and nephews survive, including Mrs. Charles Little, Los Angeles, Ezra Mayer of Central City, Mrs. Ed Clements of Valentine, Nebraska, Isaac Collar of, Tipton, Isaac Mayer of Cedar Valley, John Mayer of Missouri and Eugene Collar of Oregon, besides many grand nieces and nephews, living in several states of the union. A tribute of respect written by Miss Jane McCormick, expresses the life of "Aunt Cindy" as she lived it to the fullest, and reads as follows: To have lived so many years; to have believed in the highest and best; to have loved home, neighbors and family; to have made the world a better and brighter place in which to live; then to have slipped away quietly to the larger fuller life in the land beyond; that is not defeat, it is victory. Such a character as "Aunt Cindy" makes it a bit easier for us to believe that Death is not the end of all. The memory of this friend whose life of more than the four score years comes as a challenge; first of all to see the beautiful in nature and the best in friends; second as a challenge to have faith in the goodness and guidance of God. The words of the Poet Montgomery seem to fit the life of "Aunt Cindy." "For us who knew you, dread of age is past! You kept your interest in its last; It never lost for you it's lovely look; You kept your interest in its thrilling book; To you, Death came, no conqueror in the end-- You merely smiled to greet another friend!"
