Description	:	Josiah “Joe” H. Woodward, 73, of Kearney died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Edgewood Vista Memory Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Church in Kearney. Rev. Roger Wendt will officiate and burial will be at the Mason City Cemetery. Woodward, 73, of Kearney died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Edgewood Vista Memory Care Center in Grand Island. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements. Joe was born on June 22, 1944 in Redfield, SD to Orvel E. and L. Agnes (Skelton) Woodward. He received his education in rural and town schools near Callaway, Pleasanton and Kearney. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1962. He then attended Kearney State College and graduated with a bachelors and later a masters degree. He then attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO where he received a PhD. He married Marcile Hensel on December 23, 1966 in Kearney. They were blessed with three children; Robert, Anita and Joel. Joe worked at West Company and Rockwell Manufacturing while attending college. He taught Industrial Arts at Pleasanton High School and Kearney State College. He also taught in the Business Department at Kearney State. He served as Chairman of the Business and Nursing Departments at Central Community College in Hastings. Joe served for 18 years as the Buffalo County Assessor until his retirement in 2012; at which time he became a candidate for the State Legislature. He accepted Christ as his savior at an early age. He attended New Life Church in Kearney for many years. Joe was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Rotary International, the Cosmos Club and the Full Gospel Businessmen. He enjoyed his breakfast and coffee friends and also caring for his cattle on his hobby farm. He also developed three sub-divisions north of Kearney. Surviving relatives include his wife, Marcile Woodward of Kearney; son, Joel Woodward of Kearney; daughter, Anita and husband Steve Morse of Omaha; brother, William and wife Carol Woodward of Cheyenne, WY; sister, Jane and husband John Schuster of Kearney; grandchildren, Trevor Woodward, Hannah Woodward, Meghan Morse and Cassidy Morse Joe was preceded in death by his Parents; son, Robert Woodward; sister, Annabel Tompkin
