Description	:	Josiah was the son of Samuel R. Ballard and Eliza Hafer. He married Nancy Jane Husband on Jan. 19, 1860 in Creston, Iowa, and they resided in Afton. Their children were William E. and Walter (twins), Mary Eliza ("Dollie"), Martin James and Amanda Jane (twins), Frank A. and Frederick A. (twins), Minnie May, and Nina. Knowledge has been passed down through the generations that there were four sets of twins, but Walter and one other twin did not survive. Josiah always went by his first name and middle initial. His death certificate shows his middle name was White. Walnut Valley Times (El Dorado, Kansas), Feb. 26, 1915 Josiah Ballard, 82, Passes Away Josiah W. Ballard, 82, died at the home of his son, William E. Ballard, 124 Vine street, Monday afternoon after an illness of about six months. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the home by Rev. L.T. Faulders, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial was in West cemetery. Mr. Ballard was born in Washington county, Ohio, during June, 1834. About 50 years ago, he removed to Iowa where he lived until June, 1914, when he came to El Dorado, and made his home with his son. He has been confined to his bed since September, 1914, and death was due to Bright’s disease and heart trouble. The following children survive: William E. Ballard, El Dorado; M.J. Ballard, St. Louis, Frank A. Ballard, Nevada, Mo.; Fred A. Ballard, El Dorado, and Mrs. Mina Newhill Mehama, Ore. All the children will attend the funeral except the daughter, Mrs. Newhill.
