Description	:	Eliza was the daughter of Jacob and Lydia Hafer, and a granddaughter of Elizana Hafer of Amwell Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Her parents removed to Guernsey County, Ohio when she was young, and her father died there around 1825. Eliza married Samuel R. Ballard in Guernsey County on Dec. 30, 1830. They had six children: Laban L., Josiah W., Amanda Ellen, Thomas E., and twins Emeline E. and Stephen Marion Ballard. They removed to Henry County Iowa in 1854 and purchased a farm outside of Afton, Iowa on June 10, 1856. Their sons Laban and Josiah, and Eliza's brother, James J.... Her parents removed to Guernsey County, Ohio when she was young, and her father died there around 1825. Eliza married Samuel R. Ballard in Guernsey County on Dec. 30, 1830. They had six children: Laban L., Josiah W., Amanda Ellen, Thomas E., and twins Emeline E. and Stephen Marion Ballard. They removed to Henry County Iowa in 1854 and purchased a farm outside of Afton, Iowa on June 10, 1856. Their sons Laban and Josiah, and Eliza's brother, James J. Hafer, also purchased farms there at the same time. Eliza's siblings were Capt. James J. Hafer, who died in the Civil War leaving a widow and seven children; Jacob Hafer (wife Lucinda); Lucinda Hafer (married Jacob Strobel); William Harrison Hafer (married Rebecca J. Thompson); Elizan Hafer (married William M. Marquis), and Lydia Ann Hafer (married John Nickoson). Samuel R. Ballard died April 29, 1888 in Appomattox, Kansas while they were visiting their daughter Emeline. His grave has not been found yet. Eliza returned to Afton and died there at age 81. Eliza was probably buried in space 1 of Lot 164, purchased by S. M. Ballard (the marker just says Mother). Her daughter-in-law, Nancy Jane Ballard, wife of Josiah, in space 2.
