Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," November 21, 1949: Mrs. Josie Jay Giltner, 77-year-old widow of George R. Giltner died Sunday at 8:20 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Creamer, Ottumwa Route 1. Born October 2, 1872, in Decatur County, Iowa, she was the second daughter of James and Minerva Jay. While still an infant she moved with her family to Wapello County and has lived her since that time. She attended the county schools, the Eldon High School and Highland Park College in Des Moines. Following the completion of her course there, she taught school in Wapello County until her marriage to George R. Giltner, August 19, 1896. The couple spent their entire married life on their farm on Ottumwa Route 1. Mrs. Giltner was a lifelong member of the Agency Methodist Church. Preceding her in death was her husband, December 20, 1945; her parents; one sister and one brother. Mrs. Giltner is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Genevieve Creamer of Ottumwa; two sons, Lowell J. and Howard A. Giltner, both of Ottumwa; and three grandsons, Jo, George D. and Lowell Giltner Jr. Short funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Creamer home on Route 1, followed by services at the Agency Methodist Church at 2 p.m. in charge of the Rev. Merton D. Wyatt of Corydon, assisted by the Rev. Robert Parris of Agency. Burial will be in the Agency Cemetery. The body was taken from the Jay Funeral Home to the Creamer residence this afternoon.
