Joyce Ann was born Nov. 19, 1927, to Henry and Sylvia (LaBrie) Mannie, the second of eight children. She lived with her parents on a farm where she attended the Mannie School for eight years. She attended Brentford High School for one year and Doland High School for three years, graduating in 1946. She married John K. Rahm, the son of John and Clara (Veatch) Rahm, Nov. 19, 1946, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Turton. They lived for a time on a farm and then moved into Turton, where they bought a home. In 1981, they purchased the St. Joseph's Rectory, which was built in 1907 by Joyce's maternal great-grandmother, when she moved her family to town after the death of her husband. Joyce and John became parents of four children: Nancy, the eldest, married Larry Coats, a Doland High School classmate. They live in Springfield, Va., and have one daughter: Lori. Lori and husband Andy Kean are parents of three sons: Andrew, Tristin and Brayden. Sally, the second daughter, is married to Loel Larsen. They live at Custer and are parents of three: Joely, married to Josh Lee, has a daughter Madi; Jon, a student at South Dakota School of Mines, is married to Destinee Jones and has a daughter Alanis. Brenda, the third daughter, is married to Albert (Bud) Hansen. They live in Watertown and are parents of two: a daughter: Holli, and a son: Jeff, married to Amy Redlin, and father of a son: Hunter, and a daughter: Morgan. Joyce's lone son: Donald (Donnie) is married to Lynnette "Lynnie" Karlsen. They live in Turton and have one son: Darrin, and one daughter: Heather. Darrin is married to Laurie Constant and they are parents of three daughters: Brooke, Paige and Emma; Heather is married to Clint Abbot and they are parents of two sons: Riley and Braden. Joyce was a member of the Altar Society of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and held the offices of president, vice president and treasurer. She also was active in the parish, teaching catechism classes for many years. A lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters, Joyce held the offices of Vice Regent and Grand Regent. She sang in the church choir and also was a sacristan for a number of years. She loved her community and enjoyed her memberships in the Double V's Extension Club and the VFW Auxiliary of the Miles-Davis-Fortin Post, where she also held many different offices. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxilairy of Conde and a leader of the local 4-H club. Working outside her home, Joyce cleaned houses with Alice Imm. She worked at the Brentford Farmers Bar and Café, at the Remilys' Store in Turton and, under several owners, at the Corner Café. She worked for Pat Frances and Jim Becker at the Country Corner and for many years was a correspondent for the Times-Record newspaper. In 1986, with Leola Rahm and Ann Beauvais, Joyce started the Turton Rummage House with what was to have been a one-day sale, but, owing to windy conditions, the sale was moved into the old telephone office on the north side of the street. It was so popular that it was continued as a fundraising venture for the Catholic church. In her spare time Joyce loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, embroidering, reading and baking. Survivors include her husband: Johnnie; her children: Donnie (Lynnie) Rahm, Nancy (Larry) Coats, Sally (Loel) Larsen and Brenda (Bud) Hansen; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters Elaine Lehna, Marlyce Flint, Carol (Maurice) LaBrie and Patti Gray; and three brothers: Marvin (Ruth), Jerry (Geri) and Jimmie (Karen). She was preceded in death by her parents. Redfield Press
