Joyce Arta was born on December 10, 1918, in Taber, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Mulder) Van Kley. At the age of three, her family came to the United States, settling at Rock Valley. On September 29, 1942, she married Arend Van Otterloo in Rock Valley. They made their home mostly in Hull, where she was a homemaker. She also assisted the custodian at the Hull Christian School part-time and did housekeeping for several families in their homes. Arend passed away on August 14, 1998, in Hull. About 1996, Arend and Joyce moved to the New Homestead in Hull, and in late 2005, she transferred to Pleasant Acres. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the Ladies Aide. Mrs. Van Otterloo enjoyed making quilts for all of her children and grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren. She also liked to read and spend time with her family members. Survivors include five children, Betty, Esther, Helen, Donald and Linda; ten grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Kathryn. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; a son-in-law, Adrian Van Engen; a granddaughter, Sheri Meiners; two brothers, Fred and Gary Van Kley; and three sisters, Caroline Elgersma, Martha Veltkamp, and Pearl Zomermaand.
