Joyce passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the O’Neill Care and Rehabilitation Center in O’Neill. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of arrangements. Joyce was born on April 22, 1932, in Page, NE, to Ralph and Claribell (Larson) Cassell. She lived on the family farm north of Page, and attended school through the 8th grade. Joyce met Norman Farewell and they were married in Clearwater, NE, in 1954. Norman passed away in a car accident in 1965. She later met Wayne Howard, and they were married in Lake Andes, SD, in 1967. She lived with Wayne north of Page on the farm, where she milked cows and raised chickens. Wayne passed away in 1992, and she then moved to Page until 1999, when she moved to North Park Homes in O’Neill. Joyce enjoyed many hobbies, such as listening to music and watching old westerns. She also liked to do embroidery work, quilt and bake bread. She was a member of the Latter-Day Saints, and was on the activities committee. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Norma Retzlaff of Ewing; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Knight and husband, Carl, of Buell, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Doris Cassell, of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Norman Farewell in 1965 and Wayne Howard in 1993; two children, Arthur Farewell in 2011, and Pam Farewell in 2017; and two brothers, Ronald Cassell and Tom Cassell.
