Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Victoria Cemetery south of Massena. Rev. Tim Maxa will officiate. Joyce Ilene Mullen, the daughter of Charles Edward and Clara (Johnson) Mullen, was born on March 8, 1932 in Edna Township in Cass County, Iowa. She graduated from Massena High School with the class of 1949 and was selected as Class President. Prior to getting married Joyce worked for Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska as a secretary. On January 19, 1962, Joyce married Johnnie William Kinser in Lincoln, Nebraska. Three boys, Dennis, Phil and Mike, blessed this union. She was baptized on May 12, 1963, at the Mt. Etna Methodist Church. Joyce was a homemaker while her boys were growing up and later worked at Lazy Ike, Easy Heat/Burcliff Industries and the Corning Locker until her retirement. Joyce loved to garden and was very proud of her asparagus patch. She liked canning the fruits of her labor for her family and friends to enjoy. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her most popular dishes included potato salad, pan fried chicken, brown sugar fudge and popcorn balls. She enjoyed telling stories from her childhood and catching up with family at reunions and other gatherings. Family was very important to Joyce, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always supported them in any way she could. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Dennis and wife, Sherrie, Phil and wife, Karen, and Mike and wife, Wende; three grandchildren, Amanda and husband, Anthony, Megan and husband, Chris, and Johnathan; four great-grandchildren, Kinsey, Karsen, Beckham and Kalene; brother-in-law, George; sisters-in-law, Lois and Susie; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Joyce in death were her parents; husband; siblings: Charles “Moon” Mullen, Darwin “Red” Mullen, Gene Mullen, Carl “Bud” Mullen, Gladys Oleson, Marilyn Whitaker and Eldon “Peaches” Mullen.
