She was born October 2, 1940 at home in Wapello County to Joe and Ruth Hunter Sylvester. Read More	The REECE FUNERAL HOME Joyce Sammons October 2, 1940 - November 3, 2021 Joyce L. Sammons, 81, of Ottumwa, went to be with her husband in heaven on November 3, 2021. She was born October 2, 1940 at home in Wapello County to Joe and Ruth Hunter Sylvester. She attended rural one room schools through eighth grade in Wapello and Davis Counties and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1958. She married the most wonderful man on earth, Harry W. "Butch" Sammons on June 22, 1959. They spent almost 45 years together before Butch died from cancer on April 28, 2004 leaving a great void in her life. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her husband, sons, grandchildren and extended family were her life and greatest joy. She loved them all very much. Surviving are her two sons, Harry W. "Bill" (Tami) Sammons, Jr. of Bloomfield and Bruce Alan (Idida) Sammons of Ottumwa; grandchildren, Holland Marie (Mark) Kent, Miranda (Nick) White, Kati (Phil) Cook, Dakota Sammons, Hunter Leigh Sammons and Shania Joyce Sammons, Joseph Rodas and Alan Sammons; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Ethan, Averi, Isabella, Ayden Rowen, Garth, James, Camden, Kyran, Conall, Miles, Kaiden and Ashton; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Nancy Grooms who checked on Joyce everyday after Butch's death. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, beloved husband, and precious daughter, Ronna Joy Sammons; brothers, Frank Joe Sylvester and Thomas Leroy Sylvester; sister, Joann Ruth Glosser; two sisters in infancy; two sisters-in-law, Donna and Amy Sylvester; brother-in-law, Neil Glosser; and great nephew, Eric Goers. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, November 5th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 6th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. For those unable to attend the service, it may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery next to her husband and daughter.
