Description	:	Juan was the son of John and Amanda (Lucas) Freeman and was born April 13, 1851 near Syracuse, Onondagua County, New York. When Juan was six years of age, he and his parents and family went from New York to Michigan. Read More	Juan was the son of John and Amanda (Lucas) Freeman and was born April 13, 1851 near Syracuse, Onondagua County, New York. When Juan was six years of age, he and his parents and family went from New York to Michigan. They settled in Bridgewater Township, Washtenaw County and at ten years of age went to Porter, Rock County, Wisconsin. It was at Union, Rock County that Juan married Catherine L. Johnson on July 18, 1850. Catherine was the daughter of Vaughn and Katherine (Lee) Johnson. About 1853 Juan and Catherine went to Sperry Township, Clayton County, Iowa to live and to establish a farm. Juan elisted in 1864 in the United States Service during the War of the Rebellion but was rejected because of the ranks being full and already having four brothers in the ranks. Juan and Catherine had four children: Samuel Johnson (born June 2, 1851 at Sterling, Crawford County, Wisconsin), Eliza Jane, John Charles Fremont "Mont" (born January 12, 1860 near Volga, Iowa) and Lee Freeman (died in infancy). During his lifetime Juan made a number of moves. In 1876 he moved to Dallas County, Iowa; in 1879 they moved to Washington County, Kansas; in 1882 to Des Moines, Iowa; in 1884 to Norton, Kansas; in August 1889 to Seattle, Washington; in 1891 back to Norton, Kansas and in 1901 to Castle Rock, Washington. In his younger days Juan was a miller in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Later, he was a night grinder for the distilleries at Des Moines. But for most of his life, he was a farmer. Catherine died in 1865 near Volga, Iowa. She is buried beside her son, Lee, at Volga. Juan married a second time to Mary Augusta Stebbins in the fall of 1873 at Wadena, Fayette County, Iowa. Mary was born August 28 or 30, 1851 and was the daughter of the Reverend J. Stebbins. Juan and Mary had three children but they all died at birth. Juan died in Castle Rock, Washington on March 19, 1903 of liver trouble and jaundice. He had lived there for just over two years and as the printed obituary stated: "winning the respect of all who knew him." He was seventy-three years, eleven months old at the time of death. Burial was at the Odd Fellows (IOOF Cemetery) Cemetery near Castle Rock, Washington.
