Mrs. Lauber was born Juanita Louise Riley, June 28, 1911, on a farm SW of Concordia. Her parents were Rev. Harry and Myrtle (Moore) Riley. Juanita was a graduate of Sterling High School in 1929, and Kansas State University in 1939. After which, she served for four years as the home Demonstration Agent in Chase County Kansas. On March 28, 1943, she married John Lauber and moved to his family homestead in Derby, KS. There for the next 63 years, she lived her life for God, her family, and her community. Volunteerism was always a part of Mrs. Lauber's life. Juanita was an active and loved member of the Presbyterian Church. She was involved in the Extension Homemakers Unit (FCE). For 25 years she was leader of the Derby 4-H Club and for 11 of those years, she was the 4-H Community Leader. Juanita and her husband, John, served as Republican Precinct Committee Representatives for Derby for 20 years. Mrs. Lauber also enjoyed visiting schools to share the history of Derby. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, John Lauber. He had been a resident of Derby since 1909, when he arrived with his parents Albert and Marie (Metzger) Lauber by covered wagon. Much of Derby has been built on land that was once part of the Lauber's homestead. She was also preceded in death by four brothers: Gerald, Paul, Marvin and Wilbur Riley. She leaves behind a daughter, Mary and (Dick) Dameron of Wichita; a son, John and (Dixie) Lauber of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Pauline and (Roy) Fees of Haviland, KS; and 6 grandsons, Craig and Corey Dameron, Ryan and Luke Lauber, all of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area; Chad and Todd Lauber of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-laws, Mabel Lorene (Gerald) Riley, Wichita, Pauline (Paul) Riley, Concordia, Edna (Marvin) Riley, Brookings, SD; nieces, nephews and many friends. Memorials have been established with World Impact and Youth Horizons. Visitation Thurs. 1-8 p.m. and Fri. 9-8 p.m. with the family present: Fri. evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Smith Mortuary, Derby.
