Description	:	The Sidney Argus-Herald December 20 & 27, l928 "Former Citizen Dead"-- Word came Tuesday to friends and relatives here of the death of J.R. "Jud" McCaffree at Sturgis, South Dakota. No particulars as to the cause of his death are to be had at this time. Friends had previously been advised that Mrs. McCaffree was undergoing an attack of smallpox, which may or may not be associated with Mr. McCaffree's demise. Deceased was for many years a resident of this place, farming for a number of years, later moving to town and engaging in the horse livery business before the automobile... Friends had previously been advised that Mrs. McCaffree was undergoing an attack of smallpox, which may or may not be associated with Mr. McCaffree's demise. Deceased was for many years a resident of this place, farming for a number of years, later moving to town and engaging in the horse livery business before the automobile had put that time-honored institution out of business. He was at one time a candidate for sheriff on the democratic ticket in the early days of the primary law......(the next paper)....It is said his financial condition was of the best, he had just completed a new home in Sturgis, and besides owned farm land, which he homesteaded a number of years ago, which they say was free of encumbrance, and was yielding a nice income. Deceased was born May 1, l873, near Shenandoah, but early in life moved with his parents to a farm near Sidney and here grew to manhood. September 20, 1893, he was married to Addie Hiatt. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Charles E. Campbell and Lee, both of whom live at Sturgis. In 1909, the family moved to the vicinity of Sturgis and took up a homestead, proved up, and have since lived at Sturgis and Faith. His sorrowing wife, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and the only son Lee accompanied the body to Sidney. The services were from the Fred Hiatt home, conducted by Rev. Nichols, Methodist pastor.
