Description	:	The Pella Chronicle, dated July 1, 1909, p. 1, col 6: "Mrs. S. Van Zee died at the home of her son G. Van Zee, June 23, 1909, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 23 days. Mrs VanZee was born in the Netherlands Nov. 30, 1820. In 1847 she with her husband sailed for America, and after a voyage of fifty-four days reached New York. Mrs VanZee was born in the Netherlands Nov. 30, 1820. In 1847 she with her husband sailed for America, and after a voyage of fifty-four days reached New York. She was one of the first pioneers who helped to colonize Pella, Iowa the same year. Through all of the struggles of the early pioneer life and up to the time of her death she lived a brave and faithful Christian life. She was a kind loving and intelligent mother to her children, a devoted wife to her husband and a pious example to all who knew her. Her husband died four years ago. Besides nine children, she leaves to mourn her death, fifty-four grandchildren, seventy-two great grandchildren and many friends. Her death bed was surrounded by her loved ones.
