Description	:	On July 2, 2013, we lost a beloved and cherished woman after a long, courageous battle to lung disease, who was a beautiful mother, grandma and sister. Born to Richard and Dorothy Popelka. Judy was born and raised in Billings, where she graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1961. She was a hard worker and a great provider, sometimes working two to three jobs in her earlier years to make ends meet for her and her children. Read More	On July 2, 2013, we lost a beloved and cherished woman after a long, courageous battle to lung disease, who was a beautiful mother, grandma and sister. Born to Richard and Dorothy Popelka. Judy was born and raised in Billings, where she graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1961. She was a hard worker and a great provider, sometimes working two to three jobs in her earlier years to make ends meet for her and her children. Finally after landing what she called her "dream job" at K.O.A. and traveling extensively around the U.S., she retired after 20-plus years to work for the family business, Popelka Enterprises, until her death. Judy was an amazing woman, volunteering her time for 35 years as a 4-H leader, spending most of those years as the Boots and Britches 4-H leader, and donating her time to several organizations. She was currently on the board for the Cole's Western Wishes, a long time N.I.L.E. member and enjoyed helping with the Montana Hall and Wall of Fame and too many others to name. Holidays were her favorite, especially Christmas. Decorating her home and tree to perfection, she was all about traditions — baking and decorating cookies with her granddaughters Misty and Madison, sprinkling reindeer food in the front lawn with her grandkids and especially playing Bingo Christmas day. Judy loved traveling with her family, specifically if it was to see her "boyfriend" George Strait. She was lucky enough on her last trip to Vegas in February to have front row seats to "The King." She had told Dr. Kahn that whatever it took, she was going to Vegas. This is just one example of what she would do for a good time. Not only did she enjoy having a good time, but she always enjoyed a good prank, too. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Dorothy Popelka; brother Dickie Popelka and nephew Jeremy Popelka. Survivors include Jamie (Paul) Wise, Billy Brown, Julie (Dan) Ballek, Jodie (Chad) Schaff; her grandchildren Josh and Bryse Wise, Sally and Rachel Brown, Misty and Cody Ballek and Madison (Madi) Schaff; sisters Pat Sanford, Karen (Doug) Boylan; brother Robert (Jamie) Popelka and many other nieces and nephews. We found this poem among Mom's things. This poem is for Mom: To My Special Children, You can all miss me just a little. And every now and then Kinda wish that I were still around, to show me where you'd been But, no heart breaking sorrow, I want no guilty tears, I've had a great life, my children And the happiest of years I've lived each moment. My life just seemed to grow I've had more love and friendships, Than most people ever know, and no matter what you do, Remember there's just a little bit of me, in every one of you, My special children. Mom, I love you so much. You weren't just my mom; you were my best friend and hero. Love, Jodie With all our love forever, you will always be in our hearts. We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Fredrick Kahn and his wonderful staff at St. Vincent Hospital and also to all the nurses who cared for Judy at 3 Fortin at St. Vincent Hospital during her stay. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday July 8, at Smith's Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th St. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Sunday, July 7, from noon to 8 p.m., and prior to services at Smith's Downtown Chapel.
