She had diabetes. She was born November 2, 1925 in the Laclede community in Pottawatomie county, to Goodlet C. and Anna R. Bonjour. She spent her early life in Laclede and Havensville and graduated from Havensville High School in 1943. She had diabetes. She was born November 2, 1925 in the Laclede community in Pottawatomie county, to Goodlet C. and Anna R. Bonjour. She spent her early life in Laclede and Havensville and graduated from Havensville High School in 1943. She received bachelor's and master's degrees in special education from the University of Denver. She taught in Schools in Havensville, Belvue and Westmoreland. She moved to California in 1957 and taught in schools in the Stockton area until 1964. She moved to Sunnyvale where she taught in Sunnyvale where she retired after 38 years of teaching. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority and other educational organizations. She married Robert E. DeVere on August 18, 1964, in Onaga. He survives. An infant son died May 25, 1965. Other survivors include a son, David E. DeVere, Sunnyvale, California; a brother, Richard L. Bonjour, Topeka; and three sisters, Rose Marie Cobb, Bonner Springs, and Laura G. Terry and Carolyn Davison, both in Topeka. Mrs. DeVere was cremated. Memorial services will be at Gage Park Baptist Church in Topeka. Time has not been set. Private burial will be in Neuchatel cemetery north of Onaga. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. ONAGA HERALD 20 APR 2000 Memorial services for Julia Anne Bonjour De Vere will be held at 1:00p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Gage Park Baptist church, 3601 SW Tenth Street, Topeka. Mrs. De Vere, 74, died near her home at Sunnyvale, California, Thursday, December 30, 1999, after a brief illness. She was born November 2, 1925, the daughter of Goodlet C. and Anna R. Bonjour, on their farm near the Laclede community. After graduation from Havensville High School in 1943, she began teaching in one room school houses throughout both Jackson and Pottawatomie counties. Her educational achievements led her to completion of both a B.A. and M.A. in Education from the University of Denver, Colorado. After moving to California in 1957, she taught at Jackson School in Stockton, California and then taught special education in the Cupeertino Union School district for the remainder of her career. Mrs. De Vere was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society and others. She married Robert E. De Vere in Onaga at the First Congregational church on August 18, 1964. He survives. Other survivors include one son, David E. De Vere of California; one brother, Richard L. Bonjour of Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Marie Cobb of Bonner Springs and Mrs. Laura G. Terry and Mrs. Carolyn A. Davison, both of Topeka.
