She was born Sept. 7, 1865 in Dubuque county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Miehe. She came with her parents to Harlan township, Fayette county, in 1875, and she lived here since. She was married to John Meyer on Feb. 12, 1885. She and her husband farmed near Maynard. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. W. C. Stewart, of Maynard; Mrs. A. H. Bentz, of Fayette, and Mrs. Irvine Ecker, of Oelwein; a son, Donald, of Dubuque; a sister, Mrs. Emma Schmidt, of Maynard; three brothers, Theodore and Albert Miehe, of Maynard, and John, of Oelwein; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband and four sons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our departed sister, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Miehe, was born in Dubuque County, Iowa on September 7, 1865. She was baptized into the name of the triune God and made a child of God. When she was about 11 years old, her parents came to Maynard and lived on a farm which they bought south of Maynard. In those still pioneer days there was no Lutheran church in Maynard. The Reverend Adix of Buck Creek established a preaching station in their neighborhood and conducted services in a school house. Here the family worshipped. The departed received her religious instruction from Reverend Adix and also confirmed by him. In 1885 she was united in marriage with Mr. John Meyer. The union was blessed with 8 children: 4 of these preceded the mother in death. For 7 years they lived on a farm. In 1892 they left the farm and moved to Oelwein where her husband conducted a General Merchandise Store. In 1900 they came to Maynard where they continued in the same business. In 1918 they retired. In 1942 her husband passed away. Ever since our St. Paul's Congregation had been founded in Maynard, the departed was a faithful member. For many years she was afflicted with neuritis, then heart trouble also set in. Though her strength failed and her ailments caused her great discomfort, yet she loved her Savior and the house of God where His honor dwelleth. She faithfully attended the services as long as she could. She taxed her strength when at the beginning of this month, she attended the last time. Soon after she became bedfast. She thoroughly appreciated ministrations of her pastor - to bear the Word of God at the sickbed. There she also desired and partook of Holy Communion. On Tuesday evening, December 26, 1950, 10 minutes to 10 o'clock her Lord took her out of this world of pain into the Eternal Home. Her age was 85 years, 3 months and 19 days. She is survived by 4 children: Mrs. Clara Stewart of Maynard-, Mrs. A. H. Bentz of Fayette; Mrs. Irvin Ecker of Oelwein; and Mr. Don Meyer of Dubuque. Also 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Reverend H. P. She died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 1950. She was born Sept. 7, 1865, in Dubuque county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Miehe. When she was 11 years old, the family bought a farm southwest of Maynard and moved there. In 1885, she married John Meyer. They had eight children, four of whom preceded her in death. For seven years they lived on a farm. In 1892, they moved to Oelwein where her husband operated a general merchandise store. In 1900, they moved to Maynard where they continued the same business. They retired in 1918. Her husband died in 1942. She suffered from neuritis and later heart trouble, for several years. She became bedfast early in December. At 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, she died. She was a life long member of the Lutheran church. Survivors include four children, Mrs. Clara Stewart, Maynard; Mrs. A. H. Beutz, Fayette; Mrs. Irvin Ecker, Oelwein and Mrs. Don Meyer, Dubuque. Also, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
