Her siblings were Annie, Minnie, Mary, Peter, John, Margaret and Dorothy (who were twins) all born in Minnesota. In 1910 they were living in Leota Twp, Nobles Co in Minnesota where her father was a storekeeper dealing in general merchandise. As a girl she worked as a salesperson in her father's store. One person has written that she was ornery, fun and loved people. July 20, 1927 Julia married Jacob De Jong. They had one daughter, Amaryllis. Jacob was a minister in the Reformed Church and served churches in Leighton Iowa, Westfield North Dakota, Hymes California and Grand Rapids Michigan. He also served as a chaplain in WWII. Jacob died in 1951 in Grand Rapids where Julia continued to live until her death.
