Description	:	Julia Ella Rockey was the third child of J. Wildey Rockey and Ella Mackey Rockey. Jewel, as she was called by her family, was born in New York City and spent the early years of her childhood in Mount Vernon, New York. Wildey Rockey and Ella Mackey Rockey. Jewel, as she was called by her family, was born in New York City and spent the early years of her childhood in Mount Vernon, New York. Her father was listed in NYC directories as a school book salesman, clerk, and manager, and company publisher; her mother Ella was a homemaker. In 1899, when Jewel was about 11 years of age, the J. Wildey Rockey family moved to Philadelphia where he worked as an advertising agent. They rented their town home at 1612 N. Allison Street, Philadelphia, and attended Fletcher M.E. Church. During the summer of 1901, Jewel and her older sister, Sara, spent six weeks visiting their Rockey grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Wm H. Rockey, who lived at the corner of Putnam and Pleasantville Roads in Harford County, Md. In June 1904, Jewel graduated from Heston Elementary (Public) School and was to be admitted in September 1904 to Girls Central High School in Philadelphia, but she would graduate from high school in Atlanta, Georgia. Around 1905, J. Wildey Rockey moved his family from Philadelphia to Atlanta. In 1910, Jewel, age 21, worked as a bookkeeper for a saw manufacturer; home residence was 26 Lucile Ave, Atlanta. By 1913, Jewel worked as a stenographer at the Johnson-Lund Company which sold dental equipment. The family was living with her family at 194 Gordon Street, Atlanta. In 1914, Jewel was still working as a bookkeeper at Johnson & Lund where her father was listed as a manager. The family address was 92 Gordon Street. By the Spring of 1915, Jewel was engaged to marry W. Archer Watters, of Fallston, Md. The Atlanta Constitution, Sunday, July 25, 1915, describes their wedding: "A pretty wedding and one of interest to a large circle of friends, both in Atlanta and Philadelphia, was that of Miss Julia Ella Rockey and Mr. Walter Archer Watters which took place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Wildey Rockey, 92 Gordon Street, last Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. The bride wore a traveling suit of dark blue cloth and carried a shower bouquet of bride roses and lilies of the valley. Miss Olive Belle Rockey, the bride's sister, was maid of honor, and Mr. Lawrence S. Watters was the groom's best man. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Wallace Rogers. Only the immediate family and a few intimate friends were present. Mrs. Watters, as Miss Julia Rockey, was a very popular young lady and will be greatly missed in West End, where she has made her home for the past seven years. After an informal reception, Mr. and Mrs. Watters left immediately for Savannah, going thence by water to Baltimore and later to Fallston, Harford County, Maryland where they will make their home." For the next 46 years, Jewel & Arch would operate his family farm on Pleasantville Road, Harford County, Md. They were the parents of 5 children. When her husband died in January 1962, Jewel went to live the rest of her life with her daughter & son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Wm P. Thatcher.
