Description	:	Julia Ethel Faddis Goad, age 98, of 815 North Main Street, Hillsville, Va., passed away Saturday morning at her home. She was born in Carroll County, February 24, 1894, to the late John Adams Faddis and Julie Ann Genetta Felts Faddis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grosvenor McKimley Goad. Read More	Julia Ethel Faddis Goad, age 98, of 815 North Main Street, Hillsville, Va., passed away Saturday morning at her home. She was born in Carroll County, February 24, 1894, to the late John Adams Faddis and Julie Ann Genetta Felts Faddis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grosvenor McKimley Goad. She lived in Hillsville for 71 years. Mrs. Goad graduated from Martha Washington College in 1916 with a degree in Home Economics. Since her graduation, she has remained an active alumni attending annual reunion meetings each year. On September 26, 1917, she married Dr. Grosvenor McKimley Goad, a Hillsville dentist. For several years, she worked as a dental assistant with her husband. Throughout the years, Mrs. Goad has been involved in various civic clubs and organizations. She has been president of the Hillsville Woman's Club, president of the United Methodist Women's Organization of the First United Methodist Church, Hillsville, where she was an active member. She has also been an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Goad joined the Galax branch of the organization in 1914. When Hillsville established Chapter 71 of the Order of the Eastern Star on February 5, 1923, Mrs. Goad came in as a charter member. In 1985, Mrs. Goad was recognized by Margaret H. Carter as Grand Worthy Matron for 52 years of dedicated service with the organization. She was the last living charter member of the O.E.S. Chapter #71. During this time, Mrs. Goad served one term as an Associate Worthy Matron and two terms as Worthy Matron. Also she received her 50 year pin having missed only four meetings. She has been a member of the National Republican Committee. In the past she and her husband attended national conventions in Chicago and San Francisco as delegates. Over the years Mrs. Goad traveled extensively with her husband. She traveled to most of the 50 states and Cuba. After his death in 1968, she continued to travel. Her adventures took her to such places as Hawaii, Tokyo, Japan, Hong Kong, London, England and Bancock. Mrs. Goad loved her many friends and she always was interested in helping them, taking them gifts and food in times of sorrow. She loved her family very much, having one daughter and son-in-law, Ethel Marie and Dr. Robert F. Jackson, Sr. She is also survived by one brother, Everett Faddis, Woodlawn, Va.; sisters, Wilma Cullum, Clearwater, Fla.; Irene Hawks, Pulaski; three grandchildren, Robert F. Jackson, Jr., Virginia Beach; Martha Sue Jackson Mills; Roanoke; Margaret Ellen Jackson Martin, Hillsville; four great-grandsons, Matthew Charles Jackson, Blacksburg; Dana Robert Jackson, Virginia Beach; Timothy Todd Lipton, Nashville, Tenn.; Robert Sutherland Martin, Hillsville; one great-granddaughter, Kimberly Marie Martin, Hillsville. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, 1992, at the First United Methodist Church of Hillsville with the Rev. Nathan Alone officiating. Eastern Star Service will be conducted by Chapter O.E.S. #71. Burial will follow in the North End Cemetery, Hillsville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 Sunday evening at the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the First United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund.
