Julia Faye Prussing was born August 1, 1932, the daughter of Meinhardt and Henny Ketelsen Feddersen. She died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one. Julia was born on a farm south of Ida Grove, Iowa. She grew up in the rural communities of Ida Grove and Denison. She received her education in the Denison Community High School, graduating there with the class of 1951. During her high school years, she worked as a nurses aid at the old Denison Hospital at 1st Ave. South and 9th Street. She was united in marriage to Wilbert Prussing, September 14, 1951, at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. The couple settled on a farm south west of Schleswig and was blessed with the birth of seven children. During her younger years, Julia sold AVON products for several years. She was a nurses aid at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison for many years, but most of all, she was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother to her family. In their free time, she and Wilbert enjoyed camping. Her leisure time was occupied with embroidery and caring for her grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to the Polka Party on the radio, especially watching Big Joe's Polka Party on Iowa Public TV, and socializing with family and friends over a game of BINGO, Euchre, Mouser and Pinocle. She was an excellent speller and competed in many spelling contests at the Denison Care Center. Julia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cared for her family with sincere love and devotion. She was active in her grandchildren's school activities and enjoyed preparing large meals for family events. Christmas time was a special time of year as evidenced by her collection of Santa Clauses and the preparations she made for the holidays. Julia was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a past member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and their Ladies Aid before moving to Denison. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbert, who died twelve years to the day of her death; one daughter, Darla; a grandson, Derek Robert; one great-granddaughter, Arionna; one brother, Hans; one sister, Margaret; brothers-in-law, Leonard, Alan, and James; and one sister-in-law, Gloria. Survivors include: two sons, Roger and his wife, Linda; Douglas and his wife, Kelli; four daughters, Rhonda and her husband, Geno; Cathy; Cheryl and her husband, Dennis; Lana Jo and her husband, Harry; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Maxine; Betty and her husband, Merlin; Elfrida Waldermar; Jenny; Joleen and her husband, Ron; two brothers, John; and Ronald and his wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Mary; other relatives and friends.
