Description	:	CLE ELUM, December 20 (Special)--Mrs. J. J. Brain of Cle Elum passed away Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. C. Masterson of Cle Elum, at the age of 79 years, after a short illness of bronchial pneumonia. Julia Callahan was born in Dayton, Ohio, February 10 1851. Brain of Cle Elum passed away Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. C. Masterson of Cle Elum, at the age of 79 years, after a short illness of bronchial pneumonia. Julia Callahan was born in Dayton, Ohio, February 10 1851. When yet a small child, she moved with her parents to Elkport, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood days. In 1870, she was married to Byron B. Brain, and they moved by oxen team to Novice County, Minnesota. This was a very unsettled country, where Indians were numerous and massacres were common. Here she lived for 20 years, and in 1889 moved to Washington, where she has since resided in Thorp and Cle Elum. During this time, 13 children were born to them, eight of whom survive. These are Mrs. Patrick Henry of San Pedro, California; E. J. Brain of Vancouver, Washington; Mrs. Al Bridgham of San Diego, California; Mrs. H. C. Masterson of Cle Elum; Mrs. Walter O'Neill of Seattle; George Brain and James B. Brain of Thorp, and Mrs. E. C. Covey of Seattle. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren five great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Anne Fury of Kimbrey, Minnesota. The funeral services are to be held at the Catholic Church in Cle Elum, Monday morning at 9 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Catholic Cemetery at Ellensburg.
