Description	:	OBIT: Despondent because of ill health resulting from a fall suffered three months ago, George B. Brain, 56, widely known Thorp District farmer, took his own life yesterday afternoon by shooting himself in the head with a rifle in a field on his farm. He had written a note attributing his despondency to his health and to his inability to keep up with his work and asking that no blame for the act be attached to anyone else. Brain, 56, widely known Thorp District farmer, took his own life yesterday afternoon by shooting himself in the head with a rifle in a field on his farm. He had written a note attributing his despondency to his health and to his inability to keep up with his work and asking that no blame for the act be attached to anyone else. He had fallen from the loft in his barn in February, injuring his back and ribs, and had not been able since to do heavy work. Born in Minnesota, he had lived in the Thorp District almost continuously since 1902, when his family moved there from the upper county. He owned a farm at the edge of Thorp most of that time. He sold this ranch a year ago and purchased the John Yearwood place on the Thorp Road last fall. He had rented the latter farm out this year. He had been active for many years in the community and farm organizations. He served many years on the Thorp District School Board and was master of the Thorp Garage. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Brain; three daughters, Miss Hazel Brain, a Red Cross recreational director stationed in India, Mrs. Geraldine Siks of Evanston, Illinois, and Mrs. Phyllis Baird of Blackstone, Virginia; two sons, Lt. George B. Brain of the Marine Corps, stationed in the Pacific, and Warren Gene Brain of Thorp; two grandchildren; two brothers, E. J. Brain of Portland and James B. Brain of Thorp, and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Henry and Mrs. Irene O'Neil of Seattle, Mrs. Lois Masterson of Cle Elum, and Mrs. Monica Covey of Vallejo, California. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Honeycutt Chapel. Burial will be at Thorp. Ellensburg Daily Record, May 5, 1944 [Front Page]
