Description	:	Julian E. Ballard Jr. passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the age of 93. He was born in Jeffery on March 4, 1921 to Julian E. and Lilly Hager Ballard. He graduated from Scott High School in 1939 and attended Concord College for an AB degree in Elementary Education in 1943. He then served 3 years in the Air Force 1943 to 1946. He was born in Jeffery on March 4, 1921 to Julian E. and Lilly Hager Ballard. He graduated from Scott High School in 1939 and attended Concord College for an AB degree in Elementary Education in 1943. He then served 3 years in the Air Force 1943 to 1946. He married Maxine Peyton after his military service. The fall of 1946, he attended WV University and earned a Masters degree in Elementary Education. His first four years of teaching were at Rand Elementary School in Kanawha County. In 1951, he was made Asst. Principal at Chamberlain Elementary and Jr. High School. In 1953 he and his family moved to Homestead, Fla., where they resided for the following 15 years. They attended Homestead First UMC. During that time he served as teacher at Redland Elementary, Asst. Principal at Homestead Jr. High School, then Coordinator of Student Personnel Services grades K-12 for Dade County School system. He then was made Coordinator for Student Services at the Robert Morgan Vocational Tech. School. March 1979, he retired and moved to St. Cloud, Fla. in 1980. He and his wife, Maxine were involved in many community volunteer programs to include position of Local Coordinator for the AARP tax programs for the elderly and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Tourist information center. There they attended the UMC of St. Cloud where they served in numerous church Board of Trustees positions and usher. In 1993 they moved to Kennesaw, Ga., where he was again involved with the AARP Tax program for the elderly, they lived there seven years. In 2000 they retuned to their roots in West Virginia, and lived until 2012 when they moved to Marietta, Ga. to be closer to their daughter, Sue Ballard Stone and lived at Winnwood Retirement Community. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Maxine Peyton Ballard; daughter, Sue Ballard Stone & son-in-law, George. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 24 at Mt. Juliet United Methodist Church, Belle with the Rev. Derick Biondi officiating. Interment will be at Boone Memorial Park, Madison. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at the church on Monday.
