Oct 23, 1913 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Etta Rohan Harms, well known to many people in Carroll, died in Mercy Hospital, Clinton, Iowa, on Friday, October 17, 1913, following an operation. Etta Rohan was born in Yorkshire, New York, February 14, 1876, the daughter of Thomas and Julia Rohan. The family moved to Carroll county in 1880, when the subject of this sketch was four years old and most of her early life was passed in this community. For some years prior to her marriage she was a successful teacher in the public schools of the county. On December 28, 1900, in St. Joseph's church in Carroll, she was married to George E. Harms, who survives her. Their home has been at Fulton, Illinois, where Mr. Harms is manager for the Theo. Hamm Brewing Co. The father of the deceased, Thomas Rohan died at his home in Carroll about two years ago. Her mother, two brothers and two sisters survive to mourn her untimely death. The brothers are G.W. and T.E. Rohan, of Omaha, Nebraska, and J.F. Rohan, of Lidderdale. The sisters are Mrs. C.L. Beers, of Lidderdale, and Miss Abble Rohan, of Carroll. All of these were present at the funeral which took place in Carroll, Monday, October 20th, proceeding from the residence of the mother, Mrs. Julia Rohan, to St. Joseph's church and thence to St. Joseph's church and thence to St. Joseph's cemetery. The deceased was a devout member of the Roman Catholic church and was highly respected by all who knew her. Among the out of town friends who were in attendance at the funeral were the following: C.A. Stevens, of Cedar Rapids, W.H. Paulson, of Fort Dodge, B.F. Benzol, John Devers, Miss Beulah Kempter, of Fulton, Illinois, and Mrs. John. Hayes, of Boone, Iowa.
