"ANOTHER OLD SETTLER CALLED BY DEATH" The hand of death falls heavily upon early settlers this week, a second one of their number answering the last call within a few days, when Julius Koepke, one of our highly repected citizens, passed away early Sunday morning, January 2, 1916. Mr. Koepke's death came as a shock to his many friends as few were aware that he was sick, and it was but a few days before since he had been greeting friends on the street. He was taken ill with grippe on Wedesday of last week and the cold settled upon his lungs resulting in a hemorrihage which quickly proved fatal. The funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Chruch Wedesday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. Didlaukies. preaching the sermon and the burial took place in the cemetery east of town. Mr. Koepke was born near Wilsnack, Brandenburg, Prussia, May 28, 1844, and came to America in 1869. For about seven years he resided in Chicago and was married in that city to Miss Meta Dannaman, May 15, 1871. Later removed to Chatsworth, Ill., where the family lived for a number of years. In 1892 Mr. Koepke and family came to Blue Hill and engaged in farming. He retired from active responsibility of his farming interests seven years ago and made his home in Blue Hill. Besides his widow there are ten children surviving, also a brother in Chicago and a sister in Germany. The children are Mrs. M. Flessner, Mrs. George Veith of Hastings, Mrs Julius Kottwitz, Mrs August Sien of Bladen, Ed, Henry, Julius, William, Chris and Carl Koepke all of Blue Hill.
