A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City with Reverend Ellen Arthur officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday morning. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck, ND. Julius Hoff, the son of Christ and Eva (Hertel) Hoff, was born January 2, 1920 in Fredonia, ND the oldest of 13 children. He worked on several farms in the Oriska and Valley City before serving in the US Army Air Force from 1942 until 1946. He married Tillie Grenz on September 28, 1943 in Valley City. After his discharge from military service, Julius farmed south of Valley City until 1952 when the family moved into Valley City. He was employed at the Valley Hide and Fur and worked on the Garrison Dam project. In 1954, he began working for Joe Grotberg and moved the family to a farm near Pillsbury, ND. He enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, fishing and playing cards with his son and brothers-in-laws. In 1964, he moved the family to Goodrich, ND where he purchased a Standard Service Station. In 1966, they moved to Bismarck, ND where he worked at the Holiday Inn Standard and later operated his own station for two years. He then worked at the Kirkwood Standard as head mechanic until his retirement in 1982. After his retirement, he helped his wife Tillie with babysitting in their home. Julius also did lawn work, made quilts, flower pot lamps, and enjoyed playing bingo and listening to polka music on the radio. In 1998 he moved to Valley City and moved back to Bismarck in 2000, and returned to Valley City in 2003. In March, 2008 Julius became a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center. Julius was a member of the Bismarck Eagles Club, the Am Vets, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City. Julius is survived by his daughter Darlene (Kenneth) Weshnevski, Tower City, ND; grandsons, Philip (Diana) Weshnevski, Buffalo, ND and Michael (Rachel) Weshnevski, Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Amee (Jason) Kobes, Bismarck, ND; great-grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Sophia, Adam and Colby Weshnevski; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Hoff, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Herbert, Harold (Shirley) Hoff, all Valley City, ND; sisters, Ella Duffy, Valley City, ND, Hertha (Vernon) Carlson, Miles City, MT, Howard, Billings, MT and Alvera Sturm, Sun City, AZ; one sister-in-law, Opal Hoff, Bismarck, ND. Julius was preceded in death by his parents, one son Harley, four brothers, and two sisters.
