Contributor: diaNEB - [email protected] Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Friday, 18 October 1918 OBITUARY Julius Carl Scharnow was born in Province Brandenburg, Germany on Nov. 8, 1850, and died at Phillips, Neb., Oct. 7, 1918, aged 67 years, 11 months and 29 days. He was married to Caroline Miesner on Nov. 8, 1876. They came to America on June 16, 1884, and lived at Council Bluffs, Ia., for six years. They then moved to Clay county, this state, on March 1, 1890, and one year later removed to Hamilton county where they resided for 21 years. They moved to Loup City in March 1912 where they lived until a year ago when they returned to reside with their son, Otto. Eleven children were born to this union all of whom are living with the exception of the oldest daughter who died in 1908. There remains to mourn his loss Paul of Camp Forrest, Ga.; Clara Bartz of Mitchell; Martha Crumrine, of Gering; Margaret Tent, of Hastings; Richard, of Broken Bos; emma Schmidt, of Palmer; Otto, of Phillips; Ida Pray, of Gering; William, of Camp Merritt, N. J., and Minnie Zwink, of Loup City. He was a member of the Lutheran church since childhood. Besides his wife and ten children he leaves 27 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the home, Rev. Harder, of the South German church in charge, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Phillips cemetery.
