Description	:	Mrs. June Wilkinson Plyler, age 76, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at White Oak of Waxhaw, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Plyler was born on June 26, 1939, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late James Wilkinson and Virginia Rogers Wilkinson Hancock. Read More	Mrs. June Wilkinson Plyler, age 76, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at White Oak of Waxhaw, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Plyler was born on June 26, 1939, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late James Wilkinson and Virginia Rogers Wilkinson Hancock. She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, James Wilkinson. In her early years she was quite the athlete and played on her high school basketball team at Waxhaw High School. She remained very close with her classmates of 1958. She loved golf and tennis. After her marriage to Tom she and close friend and neighbor Claudia Yarborough played in a number of golf tournaments statewide. It was not unusual to find them playing golf in freezing temperatures from sun up to sun down at the old Monroe County Club. June later played tennis with daughter Pat in many mother daughter tournaments statewide. She was very active in local government. She chaired committees with Dr. John Caddy which helped to bring emergency medical service to Union County. She was on the advisory board for the county prison system in the 70's providing prisoners with a library to further their education. June was also a member of the Waxhaw rescue squad in the 70's and early 80's. During that time she delivered two babies with the assistance of Nancy Archer and Joyce Blythe. Thinking back on those adventures always made her smile. June loved antiques and local history. She began a career in the antique business in the mid 70's with her late step-father Brooks Hancock. Then went on after his passing to manage the Waxhaw Antique Mart. She loved her family and friends, and following retirement she quickly became bored and felt the need do more to help others. She acquired a part time job with Union County transportation, taking residents to and from medical appointments. During her three year fight with cancer she remained strong. She was a cancer mentor through a nationwide program through Facebook. The family would like to thank Union County Hospice and the great staff of Dr. Gregory Brouse for her care in these final months. Survivors include her husband, Tom Plyler of Waxhaw; a daughter, Pat Plyler-Wiltsee and son-in-law, Bill Wiltsee of Monroe.
