Read More	JURGEN RENKEN ANSWERS CALL WAS ONE OF EARLY SETTLERS WHO HELPED DEVELOP THE COUNTRY Jurgen Renken, one of the early settlers of Plymouth County, died at his home, 19 Third Avenue SW., Wednesday night after an illness of some duration following a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Renken was one of the pioneers of the county, coming here in 1871 and buying a small tract of land in Grant Township. He prospered in his undertakings and became the owner of several hundred acres and was one of the most successful farmers in the county and was also interested in other business enterprises. Judgen Renken was born in Friedburg, Hanover, Germany, on November 8, 1850, and received a good education in his native land. He came to America with his mother in 1866, and they located in Jones county, Iowa, where they remained a few years and then came to Plymouth county. He was, united in marriage with Sophia Wilhelmina Berg in 1881. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and children, who are Herman, John, Gareth, Mrs. Minnie Oetken, Mrs. Mary Gerietts, Mrs. Anna Gerrietts, Mrs. Emma Dirks, George and Mrs. Bertha Voss, all residing in Plymouth County. There are thirty grandchildren. He also leaves, two sisters, Mrs. M. Popken, of Craig, Mrs. T.M. Albers, of Grant Township, and a brother, Gareth Renken, of Le Mars. Mr. Renken was a leader in community and political affairs in Grant Township and served as school director and trustee and filled other positions of trust. He was head of the Bank of Craig and had other interests in addition to his land holdings. He was a good citizen and neighbor and enjoyed the respect of all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and father and his home life was ideal. Mr. and Mrs. Renken have made their home here for a number of years since leaving the care of the farms to his sons and daughters. The funeral services will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church at 2 o'clock Saturday, Rev. J.J. Vollmar officiating. The interment will be made in the Grant township Lutheran cemetery where other members of the family are buried.
