The information of the newspaper is available on microfiche in the Library of Congress. Date 14 October 1911Karel Bartos, one of our most well-known Czechs in Omaha, died Thursday at 3:30 PM. He was active in the Sokol organization. He was born in February 1862 in Javornice, Rychnov, Kneznou, Bohemia. He went through elementary school and then on to high school in Rychnov. In 1887, he migrated to America with his parents, five brothers and three sisters to near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After two years in Iowa, he moved to Omaha and with his brother, Joe, obtained work with the newspaper Pokrok Západu (Progress of the West), at that time published by John Rosicky. He left the paper and established a small business on 13th Street and did quite well. Then he sold that (business) and opened a saloon in what was the Krechler Hall on 13th Street. His business was good but wasn’t good for his health, so he sold the business and joined the National Printing Company as treasurer and remained there until two years ago when his health was failing. Mr. Bartos had been married twice. When he was 29, he married Amelia Kafka, and they had five children, two sons and three daughters. After his first wife died, he married Katherine Semilsky from Wilber (Nebraska). They had one son and three daughters. Other survivors are his three brothers and three sisters. The funeral on Sunday was from Sokol Hall to the Bohemian National Cemetery."
