Read More	East Oregonian Pendleton, Oregon March 22, 2011 TOWNSEND, Mont. — Karen Kay Buffington, 63, of Townsend, Mont., died at home Saturday, March 19, 2011. At her request, family and friends plan to have a memorial get-together at the lake this coming summer. Mrs. Buffington was born May 11, 1947, in Pendleton to Emory and Helena Kruse. She grew up at a logging "woods camp" along the North Fork of the John Day River near Dale, the only child of an avid hunter-fisherman. She won her first turkey shoot when she was 10 years old against a field of adults. She attended and graduated valedictorian from Ukiah High School in 1965, and shortly after married Tom Buffington on Camas Creek near Dale. She and Tom lived in Ukiah until 1976, when they moved to Pilot Rock following Tom's promotion by the U.S. Forest Service. She worked as pharmacy tech and CNA for 15 years before beginning a much-loved job with the Pendleton Bus Company, both driving bus and working in the office. The Buffingtons retired and moved to Townsend, Mont., where most of her family resided, in 2002. Survivors include her husband, Tom Buffington, of Townsend, Mont.; sons Brent Leroy Buffington of Walla Walla and Darren Lee Buffington of Townsend; daughter Misty Lynn Wadley of Idaho City, Idaho; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many special friends and family. Memorial donations may be made to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society.
