She was the widow of Peter Rasmussen, who died in 1948. She was the oldest member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church at St. Paul, and was one of the oldest, if not the oldest, resident of this community. Read More	From The Phonograph, March 25, 1964, transcribed by Linda Berney: Mrs. Carrie Rasmussen Dies at Grand Island Mrs. Carrie Rasmussen, 97, resident of St. Paul until she entered a rest home three years ago, died Sunday morning in a rest home at Grand Island. She was the widow of Peter Rasmussen, who died in 1948. She was the oldest member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church at St. Paul, and was one of the oldest, if not the oldest, resident of this community. She had 79 descendants, although a son and a daughter died in infancy and a son, Einer, died in 1958. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 in St. Mark's Lutheran Church at St. Paul, with the pastor, the Rev. Lowell E. Hemken, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul. Mrs. Rasmussen, a daughter of Lars and Karen Olsen, was born March 28, 1866 in Lolland, Denmark. She came to the United States with her parents in 1883. The family settled at Lincoln. She was married to Peter H. Rasmussen on Feb. 15, 1888 at Bennet. The couple went that same year to Akron, Colo., by covered wagon and took up a homestead. They came to Howard County in 1904 and farmed north of St. Paul until 1934 when they retired and moved into St. Paul. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Christina Jensen and Mrs. Ella Larson, both of St. Paul, and Mrs. Lillian McInerney of Washington, D. C.; three sons, Thorvald and Harold of St. Paul and Elvin Rasmussen of San Gabriel, Calif; 29 grandchildren, 42 great-grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren.
